Rock Island High School inducted 56 seniors into the National Honor Society (NHS) at a special ceremony on Thursday, March 28 at Rock Island High School. To be eligible for NHS, a student must maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher and volunteer a minimum of 10 hours in the community. A student’s leadership and character are also considered. Students chose Rock Island High School teachers Jon Catterton and Amanda Randolph as faculty speakers and to also read the senior inductee names. RIHS faculty advisor Michelle Greenwood, Connie Hayek and Bev Osborne served as advisors.
Overall, the Rock Island High School NHS senior members dedicated 1,710 hours towards volunteer efforts at organizations such as: Animal Welfare Center, Festival of Trees, Bald Eagle Days, Girl Scouts, the Martin Luther King Junior Center, Mississippi Valley Blood Center, Closet2Closet and several community churches.
“We are proud of our students for not only focusing on their academics, but also for going above and beyond for causes that matter, either in the community or around the globe,” said RIHS Teacher and NHS Advisory Connie Hayek. "Their enthusiasm to volunteer knows no boundaries."
