HMELC Celebrates the Completion of Renovation Projects

On December 13, RIMSD#41 staff, Rock Island Mayor, community members, and school board members attended a ribbon-cutting at Horace Mann Early Learning Center.

It was to celebrate the completion of the renovation projects that includes a new community room and a new secure entryway.

The school district used the Rock Island County 1% Sales Tax revenue to complete the construction project.

The passing of the Rock Island County 1% Sales Tax measure in November 2016 has given the Rock Island-Milan School District much need revenue to complete construction projects and room to plan for building upgrades in the future.

This summer, there were more than $1,000,000 worth of construction projects being worked on. Some of those projects include secure entryways at Edison Junior High, Earl Hanson Elementary, and Horace Mann Early Learning Center. Each building has been reconfigured to include a secure front entrance in which visitors have to go to the main office first before gaining access to the school building.

The district also celebrated a ribbon cutting at Edison Jr. High and will have one for Earl Hanson for its renovations thanks to the 1% sales tax on Dec. 18, at 1:30 p.m.
