Rock Island Academy student Laticia McCray-Brown, along with her father, Calvin Brown, took a trip to the State of Illinois Capitol in Springfield on January 30 to receive an award from Senator Neil Anderson.

 

The trip to Springfield was a part of the award Leticia won for Senator Anderson's Veterans Day Essay contest held last fall.

 

She had a wonderful (and educational) visit, and was presented a certificate as well as a personalized Bicentennial edition of the Illinois 2017-2018 Blue Book. The Bicentennial book contains information about the Illinois executive, judicial and legislative branches of government.

 

Laticia's teacher Tami Kelly said  "she was a great representative and ambassador of the Rock Island Academy and the Rock Island-Milan School District!"
