Rock Island High School inducted 58 seniors into the National Honor Society (NHS) at a special ceremony on Wednesday, March 7 at Rock Island High School. To be eligible for NHS, a student must maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher and volunteer a minimum of 10 hours in the community. A student’s leadership and character are also considered.
Overall, the Rock Island High School NHS senior members dedicated 1,900 hours towards volunteer efforts at organizations such as: Animal Welfare Center, Festival of Trees, Bald Eagle Days, Girl Scouts, the Martin Luther King Junior Center, Mississippi Valley Blood Center, Closet2Closet, several community churches and even abroad on a service learning trip to Costa Rica to help release turtles into the ocean. “We are proud of our students for not only focusing on their academics, but also for going above and beyond for causes that matter, either in the community or around the globe,” said RIHS Teacher and NHS Advisory Connie Hayek. "Their style of volunteering knows no boundaries."
