To: David Sebben - Rock Island High School
From: Redrick Terry
SHOUT: David, or as I like to say our resident Rock Island Athletics historian, did it once again Thursday night with an amazing pregame ceremony to honor the 50th anniversary of RIHS' Girls Basketball team from 1975. David reached out to the players, some of whom were able to attend and be honored, arranged for flowers (red and gold colored, of course) and certificates of appreciation to be handed out. Very similar to what he did for the football team's 125th anniversary earlier this year. Thank you David for helping keep our rich history alive, and for honoring those who helped make it happen!

To: Chris Versluis - Edison Junior High School
SHOUT: Mr. V. continues to provide creative ways for students to explore history. His hands-on learning approach provides students creative ways to show their learning. They feel like they live history, not just learn about history. His 8th grade students created Hoovervilles to show their understanding of the effects of the Great Depression. Students in 7th grade made butter to get a small glimpse into the life of a colonist. He encourages them to make connections between the past and today. Our Eagles are lucky to have Mr. V as a teacher!

I cannot imagine Edison without this dynamic duo!
To: Betty Hall, Lindsey Wieland & Sydney Erichsen - Rock Island Academy
From: Olivia Frantzen
SHOUT: Our dynamic 5th grade team at the Academy is always coming up with ways to help our students AND make school fun! Their newest endeavor was to include students in daily announcements by having them learn how to script, make visual presentations, record, and pull together important information for the school. This has been such an awesome project to see come to fruition. It is definitely something to look forward to every day. The pride in our student anchors is encouraging and contagious.

She extends consistent support, thoughtful work, encouraging connections, and so much more not only to her students but to all students at RICMS. Making special connections, conversations, and celebrations first thing in the morning when she greets them at the door and continues throughout the whole day. She holds them accountable with care and love so they learn the importance of doing the right thing in a safe and comfortable environment. She extends this kindness and connection even further to all of our staff members. Julie's door is always open even if it is figuratively and you end up walking with her down the hall to problem-solve or discuss what is on your mind. She checks in on her coworkers and devotes endless time and energy to events to keep us all running together and connected. There are countless things that could be mentioned to highlight all of the things she does to enhance our community but I will just end with Thank you! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, your talents, your time, and your kind heart with all of us.

As a new teacher in this district last year I was overwhelmed with questions about the curriculum and technology. From the first day we met Bettina greeted me with a calm presence and a voice that said; "I am here for you." She has lived up to that promise in so many ways. Together we have worked to learn the curriculum and master all of the technology issues. I love co-teaching with her and bouncing off ideas. She never makes me feel as if I am being judged or secretly evaluated. On the contrary, she celebrates each success and listens to my frustrations after a difficult lesson. Our district is beyond blessed to have Bettina's expertise and guidance for ALL teachers.

SHOUT: Ms. Soe has only been here a short time but has helped me immensely with two (awesome) graphic projects. Her artwork creativity is amazing and by having her do the artwork versus the company we were using to create the project, the district both saved money and we were able to get the proper internal approval much quicker since the graphic work was done in-house. Mr. Soe is also both professional and wonderful to work with. I am so glad she is a part of our team.
To: Kim DeCook, Emily DeJohn, Dani Hansen, Kathleen Hernandez, Kelley Kilcoin, Paige Loots, Karen Neder, Lily Tewksbury, Lisa Martens, Laura Sears - Administration Center
From: Angela Lynch
SHOUT: The past couple of years, the SLP staff and caseloads have been changing creating a need for more movement of staff than is typical, often somewhat suddenly. Our team always works together to figure it out and support each other while continuing to provide service for our students. When HMELC needed additional support, Emily, you stepped up. When there was a scheduling conflict for two students at Edison, Kelley stepped in. Karen's and Laura's assignments are changing mid-year due to losing an SLP and they are taking it in stride and getting it done. Kim, Dani, and Paige are taking on extra students due to the loss of one of our SLPS and are making it work. You guys ROCK!

To: Donna Manning - Frances Willard Elementary School
From: Jessica Israel
SHOUT: Mrs. Manning has taken on a new title as the seamstress spectacular at Frances Willard! Mrs. Manning has used her personal time to sew buttons on coats when the hoods won't stay on, reattach zippers that were once thought to be a lost cause, and even patch up little holes that have started to appear in clothes. Mrs. Manning's actions show that her love of our students extends beyond the classroom with every stitch she makes. Thank you, Mrs. Manning.

To: Gabrielle Paul - Frances Willard Elementary School
From: Brooke Greenwood
SHOUT: Gabby is new to the district, and I believe it is her first year teaching. However, you can't tell. Any time I have a question about how to better support my EL newcomers, I go straight to Gabby, and she always has an answer that guides me to improve what I am already doing or provides the materials I need to make those students feel successful in the general ed setting. As a veteran teacher, I truly appreciate a fresh set of ideas. Thank you for being amazing Gabby!

To: Betty Hall - Rock Island Academy
From: Brooke Greenwood
SHOUT: According to MAP Growth scores at Frances Willard, about 50% of 6th graders are proficient in ELA. I was ready to do a new book study for my highest group and quickly realized the books I needed were missing. I asked Betty if they had any copies at her school, and not only did she respond right away, but she had provided more than enough copies for me to pick up. My students and I truly appreciate it.
To: Stephanie Sanders & Mike Mertel - Rock Island Academy
SHOUT: What an absolute privilege it was to spend time with the brilliant, hopeful, and driven students of the Future Teachers Academy. Watching their eyes light up with purpose and witnessing their passion unfold in every word and action was nothing short of awe-inspiring. In those moments, it became abundantly clear that our future is bright—rooted in empathy, curiosity, and an eagerness to serve. These students, standing on the threshold of possibility, are cultivating not just the dream of teaching but the responsibility of shaping lives. And they do it with a grace and heart that remind us why education is one of the most transformative forces in the world.
Mike Mertel and Stephanie Sanders, your unwavering dedication to this program is remarkable. What you have built is more than a pathway to teaching; it’s a beacon of hope and empowerment for our district. You’ve created a space where young minds are nurtured, where future leaders are equipped to step into their calling, and where the torch of education is passed with intention and care. Your work resonates far beyond the classroom walls, touching not only the lives of these students but also the families, communities, and generations they will someday impact. It’s the kind of legacy that shapes a district’s future and strengthens its foundation for years to come.
I am truly proud to know both of you and to have been invited to witness your greatness in action. The Rock Island-Milan School District is better because of your vision, your heart, and your tireless commitment to the art of teaching. You are planting seeds of change that will flourish in classrooms, hallways, and hearts across our schools. Thank you for allowing me to be part of something so meaningful. You remind us all that education is a noble calling, and through your work, you breathe life into the next generation of educators who will carry that call forward. What a profound and lasting gift.
To: Jeff Hoskins - Rock Island High School
From: RIHS Special Services Support Team
SHOUT: Mr. Hoskins is a data and spreadsheet guru. Mr. Hoskins met with several members of our team (h.s. and elem. social workers) to get an undertanding of our ideas and big picture needs. The result was the creation of an elementary point sheet and a secondary point sheet, which will streamline our data collection process and provide continuity regardless of inter-district mobility. What Jeff was able to create was even better than the team imagined! Thank you for your help, Mr. Hoskins!
To: Tina Eyegabroad & Stacey Morrell - Rock Island High School
SHOUT: There's a saying about everyone having the same 24 hours in a day, but what you do within those hours makes the difference. This is the embodiment of how Stacey and Tina use their time and talents to support students, families, and staff at RIHS. No job is too big or small for them to offer support and teamwork to assist. They work tirelessly to meet the needs of many, many, individuals and oftentimes accomplish more in a given day than a person can imagine.
This year they have been instrumental in bringing a new substance abuse prevention and alternative to suspension program to the high school as well as facilitating the creation and deployment of a district-wide data tracking point sheet template. Both of these tools and resources will support increased engagement, a decrease in undesired behaviors, and allow for additional data collection, ultimately leading to more data-driven decision making.
Thank you for all that you do. You ROCK!
To: Tina Eyegabroad, Stacey Morrell, & Regina Boland - Rock Island High School
SHOUT: Regina, Stacey, and Tina support the staff, students, and families of RIHS in a multitude of ways. Adjusting their own schedules on the fly to meet the needs of a truant student who attended school unexpectedly, supporting students through social conflicts, and helping students find their voice in order to advocate for themselves. Each of these individuals helps to provide support and care to our most struggling students.
To: Kevin Burrage - Thomas Jefferson Elementary

From: Christi Varnes
SHOUT: The RIHS Security Team, led by Mrs. Davis has done an exceptional job of pivoting their practices and in some cases evolving their personal philosophies on discipline as they support the implementation of the new behavior-focused program at RIHS.
They were receptive to the adjustment of their role(s) to support students in a non-traditional way as we get the program off of the ground. Although student behaviors still pose challenges each day, there is increased encouragement of students, opportunities for wait time, positive relationships being forged, and a decrease in instructional time lost due to eloping. Thank you for helping our Rocks Rise!

From: Carrie Henderson
SHOUT: Nurse April is one in a million!! She is TJ's pinch hitter! Her superpower is nursing!! When you have had multiple family meetings in regards to behavior and nothing seems to help....many times parents start questioning meds. When there are multiple factors regarding meds and a family's many questions and concerns we turn to Nurse April!! Her knowledge and ability to explain the different meds and possible side effects are VERY comforting. She can relate very well to the families' concerns and explain ways in which the medicines will work. A recent question asked, how are the generic versions comparable to name brands?? She never waivered and explained the slight difference in ingredients. She explained possible side effects what to watch for and how the medicine tends to work in layman's terms. I saw and felt the atmosphere change with the family instantly in regards to their child taking meds. I am VERY thankful to have Nurse April in our TJ family and I feel our parents and students feel the same way.

To: Kelsey Taets - Frances Willard Elementary School
From: Jeff Dase
SHOUT: During a recent observation, I observed her enthusiasm and positivity for her students as she made several uplifting, inspiring and motivating statements such as "I'm just amazed at how many sounds we have gained and how far we've come; they (the students) know more than they are letting on; gosh, she's such a smart girl (referencing a student)" Mrs. Taets is just an overall model for positivity from my observation. She knows her students, their data, their life in and outside of the school. She is a model for what all school districts want from a teacher, especially at one of the most critical grades, Kindergarten, as early childhood teachers set the foundation for all school districts. Mrs. Kelsey Taets inspired me from the short observation of her practices. The students of Frances Willard and our RIMSD 41 Community is blessed to have her and I just wanted to SHOUT IT OUT!

SHOUT: Beth is an awesome manager/director. She is what a true manager means for our department. She is not one of those managers that all they do is delegate, she is one that will get down in the trenches with you! If we are short-staffed, she will get in there and help no matter what! If we are short a cook she will get in there and start cooking, if we are short a dishwasher she will start washing dishes, if we are short a delivery driver she will get out there, use her own vehicle even and get the deliveries made.
Beth goes above and beyond to make sure her department work efficiently. Beth is everyone's mom, sister, friend, and excellent manager. She is strong and she is always fair. Beth will tell you if you right or if you are wrong but she will do it in a way that you will understand. Compared to other leaders I have dealt with in the past, hands down she is one of the best! I would not trade her in for anyone else. Always give accolades while they are around to receive them!

To: Brenda Robb & Corey Ramsey - Rock Island Academy
From: Bettina McWilliams
SHOUT: Mrs. Robb and Mr. Ramsey were greeting their Head Start students as they arrived at school in the rain. These teachers had no idea that I could see or hear them. They were telling the students how glad they were that they made it to school, and how awesome it was to see them. I didn't notice that either of them had an umbrella, but that did not stop them from greeting each student. The students were elated and seemed very happy to see their teachers as well. It warmed my heart to see these interactions! What a great demonstration of why we are at the RIMSD...our students.
