Good Morning Rock Island-Milan School Community this is Dr. Lawrence, your superintendent with this week's message coming from the campus of Rock Island Center for Math and Science. GO tornadoes!! Well as you can see it's a beautiful sunny, quiet day here on campus, however we know that in the rest of the United States there is a lot of unrest. I just want to take this one moment to pray for safety, pray for peace in our world. This is definitely a time where we need it more. Well it's time to wrap up our school year. June 2nd is our actual official last day of school. In wrapping up the school year I'd be remiss if I didn't say congratulations to our Class of 2020. On Friday it was an outstanding a senior send off as well as Saturday if you had a chance to watch the virtual graduation, it's posted on our website and now it's just been confirmed that it's going to be shown on television (KWQC) and that information will be posted on our website so you know when and where to watch. But I have to say thank you to every staff member who took a video, who put everything together for these two phenomenal events. I know that our Class of 2020 feels love and they will never forget their senior year. Thank you for making it, and making it something that will never be forgotten. Kudos! In wrapping up our school year we know that this coming week that will be some some virtual celebrations and other things going on at our schools as we try to remember our are exiting student so please stay tuned to information from your individual schools. Also want to let you know that coming week will be mailing out report cards so you have that information to know how your child did throughout the school year. Also in coming weeks we will be getting out more information about how to register for school, and hopefully we'll have more info just what the upcoming school year will look like. As you know, Governor Pritzker gave us the okay on Friday to move into phase 3 and this progress means that we get closer and closer to phase 4 in Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois plan. We are hopeful that we can one day get back to in-person instruction. With that I'm going to ask that parents help us out summer school opportunities will be there for a high school student as well as working we Spring Forward for 1st - 4th graders we know that some of our schools will be trying to put together some academic opportunities for other grade level but I asked if you take the time to have your child read a book 20 minutes of reading every day. Have them work on some math assignments. Khan Academy is a great resource but if you go to Lexia and DreamBox those are online programs that we use in the district. We all need to do our part and making sure that our children come back as prepared as possible when we do get that chance to start up a new school year. We're going to continue with our meal distribution in the month of June and July so I'm happy to say that. Please know that this begin on June 4th which is this Thursday so that means that there will be no meal distribution tomorrow Monday June 1st. Again we will start back up this Thursday June 4th at the same 7 locations for more information www.rimsd41.org where we will continue to try and keep you as up on things as as humanly possible. Not much else me to say things are fluid in the world with respect to COVID-19. We're going to continue to do our part we're going to continue to try and plan to be as prepared as possible still practicing safe distancing, social distancing wearing facial protection when you're out in public that's the only way that we're going to continue to progress through this so I hope that you will have a safe, peaceful blessed week continue to listen to those robocalls check your email and go to our website for more information.
