Dr. Lawrence's weekly message on June 7 about the summer meal program and learning opportunities.

Good Morning Rock Island-Milan School Community,  Dr. Lawrence, your superintendent, with this week's messages coming all the way from the campus of Rock Island Academy! Home of the Leopards, and also of the marvelous Agents of Change! GO Leopards! We are officially into the summer! School ended this past Tuesday, we have a number of great opportunities for you to all right here at RIMSD 41. How many of you 7th - 12th graders always thought about making film? We are offering a virtual Film Academy. You get a chance to work with students , and again this is just for 7 to 12 graders. How many of you like STEM? Science, technology, engineering and math in grades 5 through 8? We are offering a summer virtual STEM camp as well! For everyone across our district we are also offering social emotional summer learning activities. A number of these items can can find out more information on our district website www.rimsd41.org and I ask that you continue to check that link regularly because we will try and keep our most update information there. Now something new for this week we will be adding on an 8th location for Meal Distribution. We'll be adding Rock Island Center for Math and Science. So now there will be eight location on Mondays and Thursdays from 9 to 11 for our families to pick up meals throughout June and July. We are happy that we're able to do that and we know that it's going to help us continue to meet that nourishment and enrichment that our family's need throughout the summer. We're still Phase 3 of Governor Pritzker's restore Illinois plan, meaning that asked for groups of 10 or less when you're in those types of groups that you still use social distancing as well as face protection. Things are continue to move forward we know that IHSA given some guidance for all of our coaches and for our athletic team so that information is coming out as well. I just know that if we continue to follow all suggestions is given by the state superintendent and Governor Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Public Health we're going to continue to move closer to Phase 4, hopefully Phase 5 so we get back to full in-person instruction. So I'm still going to say to parents help us out read to your kids 20 minutes a day give them some academic enrichment or using a program that we have online DreamBox, Lexia, Khan Academy, I just know that the more that we work together, the better things are going to be moving forward. So with that I leave you as always: stay safe stay healthy and above all stay positive through these challenging times. Take care.
