Superintendent Dr. Lawrence's weekly message for June 14.

Good Morning Rock Island-Milan School Community Superintendent Dr. Lawrence With this week's message coming from the campus of Thurgood Marshall Learning Center! Well, as we continue to roll into summer one let you know that starting June 15 -that's right this week (!) - Spring Forward will start is virtual summer camp for grades one through four. So you can reach their website or you can search ours at www.rimsd41.org for more information. Most importantly this is a NO-COST virtual camp! please participate and continue to challenge your students academically and will be ready for the new school year when it starts. In mentioning the new school year we are currently still in Phase 3 for the restore Illinois plan which means that we can have groups up to 10 individuals in one space. We are still practicing social distancing and wearing face protection. We're going to continue to move forward with those suggestions hoping, to move to Phase 4 by the end of the month and then we'll see where we go as far as the in-person instruction to come in to the school year. We are happy to say that our athletes got back on the field this week with some workout try to get ready for the upcoming season and yes parents and staff we were following all the suggestions from the Illinois Department of Public Health and IHSA taking temperature regularly making sure that our students are social distanced when they are working out and making sure that they were not sharing any partial items. Again, we're going to do our part to be as safe and as healthy as possible because that is job number one in our district. Have you noticed anything around our district lately? Well a couple weeks ago WQAD Channel 8 they did a contest to rank all the stadiums around the Illinois. And lo and behold ranked as the number one place to play that's right historic Rocky Stadium took first place! Now we're doing some upgrades are going to look amazing this year! New turf has been put in, we're going to be working on the track very soon and yeah bathrooms on both the home and visitor side already begun work there, so stay tuned to the projects that are taking place in our district. This is just the start we're going to continue to move towards being a premier learning organization. Again, I just want to remind everyone that we are in a time of Covid-19 and also a time of opening our eyes with the murder of of George Floyd, all the peaceful protest and other actions that have been taking place this last couple weeks it won't ensure that everyone has their eyes wide open knowing that the tough conversation about racism, about social injustice, equity and cultural competence are going to be part of our lives moving forward. I hope that you're ready have a conversation and to do our part in teaching understanding acceptance and respect. That's about it for this week. Again want to make sure that everyone tries to make everyday the best day that you possibly can.
