Superintendent Weekly Message with school district updates and highlights.

Good Morning Rock Island-Milan School Community! It's your superintendent, Dr. Lawrence with this week's message coming from the campus of Horace Mann Early Learning Center, home of our preschool Puffins! Well, it's a scorching 86 degrees this morning, I'm sure that you can see the sweat glistening on my forehead but I'm not going to complain because I loved it hot! So hot weather keep it coming! There's just is three main points and I'm going to touch base on for this week's message. Number 1: we want you know that we will continue with our mail distribution through the month of July at those eight locations previously given. We want to make sure that families are continuing to utilize those resources, receive that nourishment for themselves and for their students, so again please make sure you utilize those eight locations, we are here to serve you. Second: I want to reach out to all of our teachers, our parents, community members anyone that can continue to pass on the information. We want to make sure that all of our students have access to technology and internet connectivity. So if there any families that still do not have technology or Internet want to make sure that you contact your Principals of your school, or you can contact the Administration Center. Make sure you leave a name and number, and the schools that your children attend. Again, our goal is to ensure that all of our families have technology for the children, regardless of how many students or how many children they have attending our school district. So please get that information to us so that we can continue working on providing and dealing with a digital equity issues that most school districts have. Our goal is to be one to one for technology, and we're going to get there. Lastly, and most importantly [wait for this guy to go past... pretty busy on the street this morning!] but there, as you can see last week, moving towards making decisions about how we restart school year, was postponed right now so we could gather more information. And so last week, we put out another survey -yes I know individuals are tired of surveys but it is our only way of trying to reach our entire School District! Please take time to take the important survey for parents staff and students regarding the return to school for this coming year. We're really trying to seek and find out the percentage of families that plan on in-person instruction or better yet those that will not be bringing their children back for in-person instruction. This accuracy in numbers is going to help us continue to put together our plan so that we can continue working on it and getting it in place quickly, of course with the approval of our school board members. So take the survey, it has went out in the Remind system to everyone, you have access on our school website or District website, but it is so important you to get that information to us and again that survey will be open through next week Monday. Again, I just want to leave you with with saying that the safety of our our students the safety of our staff members is job number one here Rock Island-Milan School District 41. I totally understand the importance of also getting our children back in front of teachers, which is the best place that they learn from in our district. We're going to continue to work through all of the recommendations, suggestions and guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Illinois State Board of Education and Rock Island Regional Office of Education to provide the support and the programming needed to best serve our students. So again with that as always do I'm going to stay safe, stay healthy and above all stay positive and understanding in this challenging time. Take care!
