River Bandits

Rock Island-Milan School District 41(RIMSD41) is excited to partner with the Quad City River Bandits to pilot a reading program that builds literacy, encourages a love for reading, and supports the district’s Reading Revolution.

The River Bandits selected 12-15 schools across the Quad Cities area to participate in the pilot, and RIMSD41 is fortunate to have four elementary schools chosen for this year.

“Partnering with the River Bandits turns the joy of reading into a championship-level experience, sparking excitement that brings books to life for our readers,” said Sarah Freeman, Library Paraprofessional at Eugene Field Elementary.Just as reading opens new worlds and strengthens young minds, this collaboration proves that when community and literacy team up, every child wins, fostering a love for reading that lasts far beyond the final inning.”

Through this program, participating scholars are encouraged to read four books, earning a prize for each book they complete:

  • A bookmark provided by One Step Printing

  • A prize from Portillo’s

  • Quad City River Bandits game ticket

  • A giant wheel amusement voucher

“In its second year, our Reading Revolution is leveling up literacy by emphasizing reading challenges and individual goal setting as one of our five key focus areas,” said Superintendent Dr. Sharon Williams.

RIMSD41 hopes to expand the partnership to all nine elementary schools next year, allowing more scholars to strengthen their reading skills through a fun, community-based program.
