2026 RAMP

Dedicated counselors Michelle Schneckloth of Eugene Field Elementary and Val Matson of Frances Willard Elementary are being nationally recognized for their commitment to scholar success! Both recently earned the prestigious 2026 Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation through the American School Counselor Association, recognizing schools that implement comprehensive, data-driven counseling programs focused on scholar achievement, behavior, and well-being.

This national recognition reflects more than a year of collecting and analyzing data to demonstrate how counseling programs proactively support scholars academically, socially, and emotionally.

“The RAMP designation is proof that our counseling program is taking a proactive approach and that interventions – whether attendance, behavior, or emotional regulation – are backed by data,” said Schneckloth. “One of the most significant areas of growth has been the shift from reactive crisis management to proactive, data-driven advocacy for all scholars.”

For Matson, the designation validates the intentional practices taking place every day within the counseling program and reinforces the importance of data-driven support systems for scholars.

“It basically lets me know that I’m doing things the right way,” said Matson. “It’s not just doing things without collecting data – it’s diving deep into what you’re doing to show that you’re supporting scholars in the best way possible.”

Both counselors shared that the relationships they build with scholars are among the most rewarding parts of their work. Schneckloth said "it is especially meaningful to watch scholars advocate for their own needs while building confidence and emotional regulation skills," while Matson added, “The kids are the best part of my day. Seeing them learn new skills, work through challenges, and be successful gives you hope and invigorates you.”

The RAMP designation highlights the district’s continued commitment to supporting the academic, social, and emotional success of every scholar through strong relationships, intentional support systems, and data-driven practices. Michelle Schneckloth and Val Matson join Rock Island Academy’s Amy Zero as RAMP designated counselors in the district.
