It is that time of year for the Student Hunger Drive! The Rock Island High School Student Council officially kicked off its hunger drive on September 29, 2025, and will be collecting monetary donations and non-perishable food items through November 6, 2025. Please keep an eye out for donation opportunities throughout the community to support our scholars in their mission to fight hunger.
You may also donate by scanning the QR code, clicking this link to visit the website, or dropping your donation off at Rock Island High School.

Community Health Care, Inc. is offering FREE school & sports physicals during the Soles for Children Shoes & Coat Giveaway events!
This is a great opportunity to get your child’s school or sports physical completed at no cost, while also picking up shoes, coats, hats, and mittens for the season.

Please join us for our second Committee of the Whole meeting for the 2025–2026 school year tomorrow, September 23rd, at 6:00 PM at Denkmann Elementary.
The meeting will feature a presentation from Principal Versluis, a Budget Hearing and Fiscal Year 2026 Budget Approval, and a focused discussion on School Culture and Climate.

We’ve officially broken ground on the new Rock Island High School Aquatic Center!
Thank you to all of the partners and community members who made this possible and shared this moment with us! We’d like to extend our thanks to Russell Co, Legat Architects, IMEG, RTM Engineering Consultants, and Councilman-Hunsaker Aquatics for Life for their expertise and guidance.
Construction is expected to wrap up by December 2026, and we can’t wait to welcome you in for a swim!

At the September 9th Rock Island-Milan School District Board Meeting, four outstanding members of our district were honored as Citizens of the Year award recipients. We are proud to celebrate their dedication, service, and lasting impact on our community! ❤️💛

At the September 9th Rock Island-Milan School District Board Meeting, Rocky Scholars Megan Mason and Kylee Raygor were recognized as the newest Scholar Board members. We celebrate these scholars making a difference in their school and using their voices for change!👏


Yesterday, Superintendent Williams continued the long-standing tradition of delivering the annual ‘State of the Schools’ address for our district at a joint meeting of the Rock Island Rotary and Rock Island Kiwanis. The annual event highlights the strong, ongoing partnership between the district and these two service organizations. A big thanks to both for their continued support of our scholars year after year!

Edison Jr. High School, Frances Willard Elementary School, and Rock Island Academy proudly participated in the Martin Luther King Soul of the City Parade this past Saturday!
Our Family & Community Engagement team also had a blast connecting with the community and handing out free books. 📚

On August 8, 2025, three new benches were placed on the playground of Rock Island Academy. These benches were donated for the purpose of creating accessible reading and learning spaces for our brilliant scholars, their families, and the staff that supports them.
A special thanks to United Way and the Quad City Federation of Labor for coordinating the efforts that went into this wonderful project. We are eternally grateful for the hard work and dedication of members of Iron Workers 111, Laborers Local 309, United Steelworkers Local 105, and Pleasant Valley Redi-Mix for donating their time and talents.

Another stop in the Reading Revolution! This week, Superintendent Williams had the pleasure of reading “Holes” to Ms. Gottesch’s class at Eugene Field. Superintendent Williams was so enthralled that she’s getting the book herself to finish! She will return next week so the class can read to her 💛❤️





On Wednesday after school, the Edison Eagles had some special visitors from the University of Iowa! Scholars enjoyed snacks while they participated in “Hawkeye Science” activities. It was a fun afternoon! 🧪🔎




Rock Island-Milan School District and Ridgewood Elementary are so lucky to have RIHS alumna Olivia Bowman as one of the new 1st grade teachers! Olivia was a part of the Education Internship during her time at Rocky and is the first graduate to return to the Quad Cities! Welcome back, Olivia! 💙🤍
