On August 8, 2025, three new benches were placed on the playground of Rock Island Academy. These benches were donated for the purpose of creating accessible reading and learning spaces for our brilliant scholars, their families, and the staff that supports them.
A special thanks to United Way and the Quad City Federation of Labor for coordinating the efforts that went into this wonderful project. We are eternally grateful for the hard work and dedication of members of Iron Workers 111, Laborers Local 309, United Steelworkers Local 105, and Pleasant Valley Redi-Mix for donating their time and talents.

Last night at the Rock Island City Council meeting, four exceptional members of our district were recognized as Citizens of the Year during the 38th annual Citizen of the Year celebration.

Another stop in the Reading Revolution! This week, Superintendent Williams had the pleasure of reading “Holes” to Ms. Gottesch’s class at Eugene Field. Superintendent Williams was so enthralled that she’s getting the book herself to finish! She will return next week so the class can read to her 💛❤️




On Wednesday after school, the Edison Eagles had some special visitors from the University of Iowa! Scholars enjoyed snacks while they participated in “Hawkeye Science” activities. It was a fun afternoon! 🧪🔎



Rock Island-Milan School District and Ridgewood Elementary are so lucky to have RIHS alumna Olivia Bowman as one of the new 1st grade teachers! Olivia was a part of the Education Internship during her time at Rocky and is the first graduate to return to the Quad Cities! Welcome back, Olivia! 💙🤍

The Reading Revolution continues strong this week! Superintendent Williams had the honor of reading “Once Upon a Book” to Ms. Blackwood’s class at Rock Island Center for Math and Science. Superintendent Williams can’t wait to return when the class is ready to read to her!

From the launch of the Reading Revolution community book club this summer to the first week of school, our district continues to inspire scholars to become lifelong readers!
On the first day of school, Superintendent Williams had the honor of visiting Mr. Mike Mertel’s freshman World Studies class to read "I Am You: A Book about Ubuntu".
