Board of Education Meeting Recap

The Rock Island-Milan #41 Board of Education held its regular meeting on March 26, 2024. Here is a brief recap of what was discussed at the board meeting.

In action items, the Board approved:
  • Contract for service with Terracon Consultants to perform lead paint testing at eight locations in the amount of $20,000. District Operations and Maintenance funds will be used for this purchase.
  • Contract with J&D Enterprises for the inspection and repairs to the bleachers at Rock Island High School, Edison Jr. High School, and Washington Jr. High School in an amount not to exceed $23,665.00. District Operations and Maintenance funds will be utilized for this purchase.
  • Contract for the Rock Island High School auditorium lobby renovations to Swanson Construction Co., in an amount not to exceed $345,000.00. 1% sales tax funds will be utilized for this purchase. 
  • The addition of 60 hours with Shared IT, in the amount of $5,700.00. This amount will be funded by the Technology Department budget and valid through June 30th, 2026.
  • Approved bills for payment dated February 29th in the amount of $4,337,934.94 and March 15th in the amount of $4,503,210.42.
  • The December 2023 financial statements.
  • The January 2024 financial statements. 
  • The February 2024 financial statements.
  • The investments reports for quarter ended December 31, 2023.
  • The purchase of eleven bench cafeteria tables for Frances Willard Elementary School from Palmer Hamilton, not to exceed $20,773.40. District Nutrition Service funds will be utilized for this purchase.
  • The purchase of four convection ovens from Krebs Brothers Restaurant Supply Co., in the amount of $43,031.72. Nutrition Services funds will be used for this purchase. 
  • The 2024-2025 membership for the Illinois High School Association at no cost to the district. 
  • March donations.
  • Certified appointments, certified resignations, a non-certified appointment, non-certified support coaches, a non-certified leave of absence, a non-certified resignation, and a non-certified termination.
In education:
  • Dr. Ruggeberg gave a presentation on Rock Island High School apprenticeships and pathways. The Board of Education approved the addition of an Accounting Registered Apprenticeship Program for high school students, to begin as early as June of 2024. 
 
In operations:
  • The Board of Education approved the Head Start Annual Self-Assessment, the Head Start Community Assessment, and the Head Start Annual Program Grant Application. 
  • The Board of Education heard information on the corrective action plan for Head Start, an update on Rock Island High School stadium repairs, and the announcement of RIMSD and School Health Link's partnership to provide a clinic at Rock Island High School effective in 2024-2025 school year.
In personnel:
  • The Board of Education approved the transitional services employment agreement and amendment to the performance-based superintendent's contract at the rate of $846.15 per day, plus travel and lodging compensation from March 1, 2024 through June 30, 2024 according to the agreed contract. District funds will be used.
