The Board held a Committee of the Whole where they recognized the February and March Parent/Guardians of the Month.

Thomas Jefferson was the featured school and principal Ian Scott highlighted staff, parents, volunteers, and community members who make TJ so great. Thomas Jefferson Students also gave a wonderful msucial performance!

After the presentation, the Board led a discussion around two-way communication with community members present at the board meeting. The public discussed ways to improve the exchange of information between schools and stakeholders. 
 
 
In action items, the Board approved:
  • A contract for grading and hydroseeding from Curb Appeal, for $12,954.51. District Operations & Maintenance funds will be utilized for this purchase.
  • Authorize Bills for Payment dated April 15th in the amount of $5,325,660.18.
  • April donations.
  • Russell Construction, as the construction manager for the Rock Island High School Aquatic Center.
  • The contract for the concrete removal and replacement at Longfellow Liberal Arts to Emery Construction Group, in an amount not to exceed $19,692.00. Operations & Maintenance funds will be utilized for this purchase.
  • The recommendation that the Board of Education accept the quote for reconditioning the football program equipment from Riddell All American Sports, in the amount of $11,265.69. District Athletic funds will be used for this purchase.
  • The purchase of restroom doors at Rock Island High School with Doors Inc. in the amount of $12,352.00. District Operations & Maintenance funds will be utilized for this purchase.
    The purchase of floor wax, stripper, and scrubbing pads from Greenwood Cleaning Systems, Inc., in the amount of $28,902.00. District Operations & Maintenance funds will be utilized for this purchase.
  • The purchase and installation of a playground center for Thomas Jefferson Elementary through Team at a cost not to exceed $102,105. Title IV Funds will be utilized for this purchase.
  • The following certified appointments for the 2024-25 School year of Morgan Maring, Kaitlyn O'Brien, Maritza Miles, Kaylyn Lemmon, LaChari Miles, Kelsey Taets and Alleena Blackwell.
  • The following certified appointments for the 2023-24 school year of Hannah Knuth, Page Gibson and Brian Salinas.
  • The rehire of the following full-time teachers for the 2024-25 school year. The 2024-25 school year will be their first year of status toward Tenure:
    Ariel Bainter - Elementary Teacher / Frances Willard $47,078.00
    Josephine Johnson - EL/Bilingual Teacher / WJHS $53,321.00
    Amber Mattly - Special Education Teacher / RICMS $76,027.00
    Lily Tewksbury - Speech Pathologist / HMELC $53,321.00
  • The following certified support coach resignation of Dan Nelson-7th grade Basketball Coach/Edison with seven years of service.
  • The following certified resignation upon the completion of the 2023-24 school year of Kelsey Johnson-SpEd teacher/WJHS with five years of service.
  • The following non-certified appointments for the 2023-24 school year of Alexander Varble, Vernon Wilmington, Tochcia Butler, Christina Blodig and Pharoah Parks.
  • It is recommended that the Board of Education approve the following non-certified
    support coaches for the 2024-25 school year of:
    Jesus Sosa-Assistant Boys Soccer Coach/RIHS
    Abbie Metz-Assistant Boys Soccer Coach/RIHS
  • The following non-certified resignations upon completion of the 2023-24 school year of Mary Jane Newenham-TitleI Paraprofessional/Frances Willard with 22 years of service.
  • The following non-certified resignation upon completion of the 2023-24 school year of Dionna Swanigan-ECSEParaprofessional/HMELC with three years of service.
  • The following non-certified termination of 24/13/19.
 
In business, the board heard information regarding the 2023-2024 amended budget. 
 
In personnel, the Board approved:
  • The following Administrative appointments for the 2024-25 school year of Christi Varnes - Special Education Coordinator (Secondary) / PPS.
