Good Morning Rock Island-Milan School District this is Dr. Lawrence, your superintendent with this week's announcements. As you can see, I'm not outside filming today  -because it is raining like crazy- but I am representing one of our school's Longfellow Elementary School -GO LIONS! This week ISBE, the Illinois State Board of Education released guidance on transitioning academic, social emotional and logistical considerations for ending the current school year and entering the summer. It is our goal in RIMSD, to have an effective transition back to school which starts with closing out the current school year. This will lead to how we're going to reopen our school buildings when we reach acceptable phases set forth by Gov. Pritzker and we still have a long way to go. I know many of you are eager to know exactly how the school year is going to end and the plan on how and when students will return to the classroom. We are eager too, but we cannot lose sight of the fact these considerations are matters that severely impacts our health. We're working closely with public health experts and ISBE to be sure that we can welcome students and staff back safely with minimal risk to their health and well-being. We must take every precaution with the lives of students and families in our hands that's always been our top priority through this pandemic. I'm closing out the school year for the class of 2020 we're doing all of the celebratory things that we can do, virtually course, such as the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony, the Rock Island-Milan Education Foundation Academic Achievement Awards and Scholarships and you have seen this week on Facebook, so thanks for your participation. We will have a special area on the Rock Island High School website set up so that you can do these virtual events. We will be doing the same for our RIMSD #41 retirees and a Medal of Honor award recipients. We're also continuing plans for an online summer school program at the high school for those who need to focus on specific areas of their coursework and we're working with our elementary education partners Spring  Forward Learning Center to have remote activities and events for elementary students.
