Learn - Enrich - And - Discover LEAD Time
Eugene Field Elementary is furthering its school mission statement of using the 7 Habits to Learn, Lead, and Succeed through the implementation of “LEAD Time” Fridays.

LEAD allows our students to have experiential educational opportunities throughout the school year. Opportunities include the fine arts, STEM, cooking, a variety of fitness activities and college and career tours. The Leader in Me teaches our students leadership skills and LEAD allows our students the opportunity to use those skills within our community.

LEAD Time Fridays take place for the second half of the school day on four Fridays each quarter (16 total per school year), between noon and dismissal time. LEAD Time Fridays develop creativity, promote critical thinking, enhance higher order thinking skills, and prepare students for college through real-world experiences. The program is unique in that it is provided four Fridays each quarter and is incorporated into the school day. Courses such as Gateway to Science (provided by the Putnam Museum), Aviation and Drones (provided by Augustana College), Cooking (provided by the University of Illinois Extension), Gymnastics (provided by QCGA), and Music (provided by River Music Experience) are a few of the possibilities.

All students in 5th grade embark on a “Career Tour” to explore a variety of careers, and then in 6th grade, all students visit many local colleges and universities to learn about majors available to them after graduating from high school. 5th and 6th-grade students are exposed to a number of post-graduation paths and trades to enable them to be college- and career-ready after graduating from high school.

Do you have an idea for a LEAD Time offering? Perhaps you are interested in volunteering to supervise students during LEAD Time, or even teach a LEAD Time course? Please contact the school principal, Jennifer Alongi [email protected] for more information.
