A special message from RIMSD #41 Superintendent Dr. Reginald Lawrence for the week of April 20

Hello Rock Island-Milan School Community, it's your Superintendent Dr. Lawrence on a beautiful Sunday morning By now I know you've all heard the news Governor Pritzker has suspended all in-person instruction for the are the 2019-2020 school year. But you can imagine when we heard that information we were very disheartened and disappointed because all of your teachers administrators we were looking forward to seeing our students back in our building and the hustle and bustle of every day in our schools But we know that this decision was bigger than education, because right now the safety and health of our nation is at risk... and so that's going to call for us all to continue moving forward, staying the course, practicing all those things that the medical expert says shared for you to do at home and when you're out and about. For us at the district level means we're going to continue our meal package distribution two days a week and also getting a computer out to all those families that still need them so that your children, our students, can be a part of the academic learning on Google Classroom. You can also imagine the work that's ahead for us- it means it over the next coming weeks, my Administration team and I will be working to put in place all the things to give us the smooth closure to the end of this year. That means setting up a way with date and time for you to come and pick up personal items; it means getting out report cards; it means looking at possible summer school options. So we're going to ask that during this time you be understanding with us, be patient, and know that we're going to put everything in place so that we can have a smooth transition to the end of this year and going into next year. I'd be remiss if I didn't take the time to just say again thank you to all of those teachers, administrators, volunteers who kept our district moving forward ...but also I want to thank all the businesses and organizations. Your generosity and reaching out to us has been tremendous! Now we're in the course in the midst of the work at this time, so I haven't been able to reach back out to you, but please know that all those offers that you have for us, we're going to take a rain check right now and when we've gotten through all of this we're going to reach back out so that you can continue to support our district. Talk about staying the course, this year was going to be our first annual Educator of the Year Gala. It was an opportunity for principals at buildings to select a staff member who's been outstanding supporting students, you name it. Well this week I continue moving forward I congratulated those 14 teachers in our Rock Island-Milan schools, been tremendous, and we will get those names out so that you know who they are too, but I just want to say THANK YOU for all the hard work you've done this year In moving forward, it means staying the course and also means that we're going to get through this> To my Class of 2020 students you are resilient, you are amazing, this isn't the way that you wanted your school year to end and we're going to do everything we can to make sure that you're recognized with some type of graduation or commencement activity.
