Superintendent Dr. Lawrence's message for the week of May 4 to students, staff and community.

Hello Rock Island-Milan School Community! It's your district superintendent Dr. Lawrence here, at Edison Junior High School for this week's message. The month of May has been outstanding, the weather's been great, there has been lots of sunlight, so my advice to all of you is to get out and enjoy some of it! Of course we're going to continue to follow the the Governor's stay-at-home order with respect to social distancing, and if you're going to be in places like the grocery store picking up essential items, make sure that you have on your mask. The month of May also bring on another important time for us- this week starts National Teacher / Staff Appreciation week. This is an opportune time for my self and others to say thank you to all the phenomenal teachers that we have in Rock Island-Milan School District! Teachers are the backbone of Education, they teach us not only about academics, but they also teach those soft skills, they teach us about how to interact with others, how to build relationships, they are really preparing us for the future. And I know that I remember many of my teachers - those that have impacted me; from Mrs. Marion in kindergarten, to Mr. Rivera my gym teacher in elementary school, I then remember Mr. Wison, my middle school teacher. And I can't forget my high school teacher Mrs. Mayberry. They all gave me the educational bricks that I needed to lay the foundation leading to where I'm at today, so to teachers all across Rock Island-Milan School District, thank you for everything that you do. We appreciate you, we support you, and I'm hoping that all the families and everyone that's watching this video will go out there and SHOUT OUT our teachers- do it through social media and even go back to the teachers that impacted you. Congratulations teachers and staff members this is an awesome week for you. Thank you for your hard work! I want to pass on just a little bit of information for a Class of 2020 Graduates... we have plans on virtual graduation this year, scheduled for that May 30th date. It's due to the times, but we know that it's going to be a great activity for our students, so stay tuned to that information. We also have a Plan B, we have a contingency date of August 2nd at the TaxSlayer Center. Just in case the governor changes some things that we can get a chance to see each other in person, so that contingency date is August 2nd TaxSlayer Center. And along with all of this we've got something special planned for Graduate Class of 2020 I want to tell you all about it but it's a secret so I know you're going to enjoy it so stay tuned again it's just our way to say that Class of 2020 you mean a lot to us, you'll never be forgotten and I know that this is going to be a memorable school year for you. That's pretty much it for my announcement only other things we continue to feed our families 2 days a week at 7 locations in the District. We are continuing to be available to get technology out to anyone that needs it so please reach out to us- you know the district's website www.rimsd41.org and I'll end this as I always do: please take care of each other, stay safe stay healthy and above all stay positive during this time.
