A message to families from Dr. Lawrence about students returning to school on October 19.

Well good afternoon Rock Island-Milan School Community. Its Dr. Lawrence your superintendent with a brief message leading us into next week as you know Monday October 19th will be transitioning back into our Blended learning plan and I know that there will be a lot of excitement back in our buildings. It'll definitely be good to see students who get a chance to engage with their staff members, their teachers, and their peers, staff members, teachers and in their peers but I also want to make sure that you continue to put that message of safety out there and let everyone know that this is going to be a different time for us. I know that we have visions of education and instruction pre-COVID but I have to remind all of our families that this is going to be a very controlled atmosphere for students. There won't be any fist-bumps. There won't be any hands shakes or  hugs or anything like that or no hanging out in the hallways next to your lockers. We're going to be serious about ensuring that we keep your students your children, our students as safe as possible. We also have to ensure that our staff members are safe too. So starting next week, Monday when you get back to your buildings we want to make sure that one you're wearing your masks and that your students come to school with their cloth mask. It's going to be important for us to make sure that we keep our building open from now through the end of the school year so resorting to wearing our masks the social distancing will be very important, again we're using a 6-foot distance in our in our classrooms and in our hallways, as much as possible and also they'll be a lot of opportunities to wash hands, using hand sanitizer. We will need your help though parents and we need your help by ensuring that if you or your child has symptoms of COVID, we're going to ask and strongly encourage that you keep your child home. We understand, we want everyone back in person as quickly as possible but we want to continue to be safe. So again I am looking forward to potentially getting out to just see some of our buildings, some of our students in their classrooms but rest assure safety and following of all of those suggestions and examples that I just gave you are going to be enforced every day. So again, welcome back to the second part of our school year the, second quarter, and we look forward to seeing our students get back to in-person instruction and having a successful academic instruction with teachers. Thank you.
